Crimewave (LA Riots Remix) – Crystal Castles

The LA Riots have already performed with high-profile figures like The Crystal Method and MSTRKRFT, a result of their remixes for major labels like Warner Bros. and Interscope. The exclamatory project of founding member Daniel Ledisko and Jon Pegnato, the pair came together in 2009 after Daniel Ledisko and former-member John O’Brian decided to pursue separate interests. Just as suddenly as he came on, resident DJ Mr. White passes the torch to the infamous Armand van Helden with a brief hug. The massive crowd in front of the stage roars its approval as his MacBook Pro takes center stage and bottles of Grey Goose filter through.
One fan behind the stage asks me if I “know Armand personally” and proceeds to effuse his love for the DJ. This is Control, a Friday night electronica and dance fest at the Avalon in Hollywood on Vine.
Drown in the Now – The Crystal Method ft. Matisyahu
Fusing music genres can be tricky, but The Crystal Method and Matisyahu do it seamlessly. “Drown in the Now” is a composite mix done right, with intricate nuances that keep you on your toes. The track is a natural by-product of the artists’ different musical perspectives: The Crystal Method has an electronic focus, while Matisyahu—a Hasidic Jewish musician—works with reggae and religion. "Drown in the Now" mirrors this dynamic between electronic and reggae effortlessly, creating a complex, musical harmony.
