Push – Shinichi Osawa (vocals by Ania aka Miss Monroe)
Shinichi Osawa has been an amazing electro and indie producer in Japan, and internationally he has garnered respect from the music community for his unique sound and overall bulletproof production. It definitely doesn't hurt that Osawa has chosen a beautiful supermodel and terrific performer for this track. The sound on this track is amazingly glitchy, but "Push" maintains a poppy feel with the deeper-toned Lady Gaga-esque vocals of Ania Chorabik. And the catchy hook helps soften the glitchy-ness. This track--and others like it--may help expose this style of electro to a more mainstream audience.
Rule (80Kidz’s “No More Rule” Mix) – Ayumi Hamasaki
What happens when you mix one of Japan's greatest pop stars with its most exciting electronica group? Answer: "Rule (80Kidz's 'No More Rule' Mix)," the original track which appeared on Ayumi Hamasaki's 45th single, "Rule / Sparkle," and was used internationally in the live action "Dragonball Evolution" released earlier this year.
Surprisingly, the 80Kidz were asked to remix the track for the megastar, despite their underground status. The results are simply mouthwatering, if not completely addictive. Though they don't often release electronica/hip-hop mashups, the 80Kidz are definitely worth checking out (you'll love "Life Begins at Eighty" and "Disdrive"). Trust us, this up-and-coming group out of Tokyo is not one you want to miss.
