Phil Speiser is not your average teenager. The 19-year-old novice DJ is making waves on the HipTronik scene with his project Dirty Disco Youth, and already has a notable following from big names like Steve Aoki, The Bloody Beetroots and Benny Benassi. It’s not surprising considering the impressive list of original releases and remixes that have people calling Speiser the new “Wunderkind.” The Dirty Disco Youth remix of Crookers’ “What Up Y’all” captures the rugged charm of this fiery youth. And with an upcoming album, ”Chicks On Speed,” and an EP in the works, Speiser is paving the way for Dirty Disco Youth domination.

What do you get when you mix Hyper Crush and Benny Benassi? The psychedelic combo of “Sex and Drugs”—one of three new remixes released over the past few days. The song is simply electrifying: Benassi weaves his signature house beats into the original Hyper Crush track in a surprisingly harmonious fusion of sounds. Benassi and the Hyper Crush trio unite in this smash HipTronik medley. The Bloody Beetroots stand out in the world of HipTronik with their slick remixes and seamless flows. “I Am Not Drunk” revamps the Benny Benassi version, which is no easy task considering the song is already a quality product coming from the 10th most popular DJ in the world, according to The DJ List. “I Am Not Drunk” is an edgy HipTronik mix that warps the original into a characteristically Bloody Beetroots’ track.

Remember when we introduced you to Starrset? It's been a few weeks now, and we've since discovered this gem of a track on YouTube. "I Got It" was remixed by none other than the infamous Donald Glaude. Glaude takes the original track and mixes it up with a bit of Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction." The tune is standard dance floor flair, but we definitely foresee it getting the room jumping. With hits like this, the young Starrset duo are undoubtably on their way up!

“Long legs, bitchin’ booty, she was like a vision to me…” sang front man Donny Fontaine to a packed crowd in the Hyper Crush Ballroom shortly after the countdown on New Years Eve. Girls seeming to match that very description swayed back and forth, drinks in hand, simultaneously fighting off the men trying to get close enough to sing those same lines into their ears.  Lights flashing in the background, Holly Valentine stepped up to the microphone to answer back as Preston Moronie took to his keytar. As the song finished, the neon-attired trio marched straight into the Hyper Crush classic, “Arcade,” working their fans into feverish excitement.

One of the original HipTronik pioneers, Hyper Crush has been on the tour circuit for years now. Having opened for the likes of Kevin Rudolf and Lady Gaga, and currently taking the next few months to headline their own shows, the group has their live performances down to an uncanny sort of perfection. They sport cheesy 80’s apparel, but you can’t help but want to join in anyways. Their live show is a breathtaking escape from reality, even if just for that forty minute set.

The San Diego Marriot Hotel and Marina played host to that spectacle this New Years Eve, boasting a beacon of entertainment, including headliners Hyper Crush and DJ duo Scooter and Lavelle, as well as a number of other talents. Flat screen TV’s hooked up to Nintendo’s classic “Duck Hunt” lined the entrance corridor, and if you waited in line long enough, you could also score free airbrush tattoos and tarot card readings. With hotel packages and endless hours of dancing and video games, it was easily the premiere spot for San Diego natives and Hyper Crush fans to ring in the New Year.

Hyper Crush performed a set of their most recognizable songs—whether the  audience recognized them or not really didn’t seem to have mattered. Their new crowd-friendly single “Keep Up” induced jumping and hand swinging, and their performance of “Robotech” produced an appearance from Donny’s power glove and Preston’s finger-laced laser beams. Holly’s witty banter about “Sex and Drugs” launched them into a performance of their appropriately-titled single, concluding with the Benny Benassi remix and chants of “When I say Hyper you say Crush!”

With an album to be released soon and a healthy dose of swagger, style and performance, we’re pretty sure people everywhere will be chanting “Hyper Crush” in the near future.
